Nat at Rights and Lefts, California – 1966

Nat at Rights and Lefts just before the World Championships in San Diego. This picture was never published, but very similar shots were run in Surfer magazine with the article ‘We’re tops now’ in 1967. What is interesting about the photograph are details that, at the time, were utterly unremarkable, but which define the time…someone knee-paddling; George Greenough with one of his Velo spoon-boards; Nat riding the board he called ‘Sam’… it’s a snapshot of a little piece of surfing history in-the-making.
